Visual Edit

Learn how Visual Edit works, what you can change, and when to use it over prompting. Click any element in your project to edit it directly.

Click any element in your project preview to edit it directly or reference it in a prompt. No need to describe what you want to change. Just click it.

Visual Edit gives you direct control over individual elements without writing a prompt from scratch. You can edit content inline or pin an element as context for a more precise AI-driven change.

Editing Elements

Visual Edit works in two ways, depending on how much you need to change.

How to enable it

  • Click the pencil icon in the bottom toolbar of the editor to enter Visual Edit mode.
  • A Visual Edit panel opens on the left side.
  • Your preview becomes interactive.
  • Click any element on the page to select it.

What you can do with a selected element

When you click an element, two things happen:

  • The Visual Edit panel shows the current content of that element, so you can edit it directly
  • A "Reference element in chat" tooltip appears above the element

Editing content directly: The selected element's content appears in the Visual Edit panel on the left. Edit the text in the field, and the change applies to your project.

Referencing an element in chat: Click Reference element in chat to pin that element to your prompt bar. Meku now knows exactly which element you are referring to. Type your instruction and send it. This is useful for changes that go beyond text, like restyling, repositioning, or restructuring a component.

Clearing a selection

  • Click Clear in the Visual Edit panel to deselect the current element and pick a different one.
  • Click Close to exit Visual Edit mode entirely.

Visual Edit vs Prompting

Use Visual Edit when you know exactly which element you want to change. Use a prompt when you want Meku to make a broader change across multiple parts of the project.

  • Visual Edit is fast for small, targeted edits like fixing a label, changing a heading, or tweaking a single component
  • Prompting is better for structural changes, new sections, or changes that affect multiple elements at once

Credit Usage

Direct content edits through the Visual Edit panel use minimal credits. Referencing an element in chat and sending a prompt uses credits the same way a regular prompt does, since Meku generates updated code.

Exiting Visual Edit

Click Close in the Visual Edit panel to return to the normal editor view.
